England was always full of camping spots, and we have discovered yet another hidden gem. Today we’ll be talking about camping in Polzeath, a small village in the South West region. Polzeath has so much to offer, but it may be most recognized for its sand beaches.
The Polzeath beach is a popular destination amongst professional surfers. One of the reasons is that it’s easily accessible. You can also visit Greenaway Beach nearby if you are not into surfing. There are also quite a few shops, restaurants, and bars to enjoy near the beach if you just want to sit back and relax.
Wild camping: Is it legal in Polzeath?
Short answer, no, it is not legal to wild camp in Polzeath. This is because wild camping is illegal in England in general. However, that doesn’t mean people still don’t do it.
You might come across someone in a tent, but that doesn’t mean it is allowed. Please note, Polzeath is a small place, and most places around it are easily accessible. What we are trying to say is that there aren’t many spots you can pitch your tent in the wild without being seen. If you still want to test your luck, do this when wild camping:
- If possible, ask the owner of the land for permission.
- Don’t throw any trash and take everything with you when leaving.
- Always use a storm cooker, and never start a campfire.
- Never camp near the houses.
- Avoid camping on the beach as the tide can easily reach your tent.
“Polzeath is a very popular Blue Flag beach and surf resort that attracts all different age groups.”

Best time for camping in Polzeath
The best time to camp is during the summer months. That’s when you’ll see the most beautiful sights and when the temperature is at its highest. However, that’s when there are most people on the beaches as well. If you are looking for peace and quiet, you can go in late August, or early September instead.
Note, dogs are not allowed on the Polzeath beach from mid-May till the end of September. You might want to keep that in mind if you bring a pet companion. That being said, you can bring them to Greenaway Beach instead. If you are unsure what things to bring when camping, we got you covered.
Things you should bring with you:
- Windbreaker – Winds can be pretty strong, always have one with you.
- Stormcooker – Use instead of a campfire.
- Waterproof tent – If you don’t know which, check our “best tents for heavy rain” article.
- Check our camping gear recommendations.
